Why Catalyst Learning Exists

Education should not begin after the waitlist ends.

If B.F. Skinner were alive today, he might look at the current state of behavioral services and say something along the lines of,

“Well… the contingencies could definitely be arranged better.”

And he would not be wrong.

Across Southwest Louisiana, families are trying to understand their children’s behavior, navigate evaluations, and access services in a system that often feels confusing, delayed, or simply out of reach. Many parents find themselves placed on waitlists that stretch months or even years. During that time, questions pile up:

Why is this behavior happening?

What can we do at home?

Where do we even start?

Catalyst Learning exists because waiting should not mean learning nothing.

Behavior analysis has spent decades developing powerful, evidence-based ways to understand and shape behavior. Yet much of that knowledge lives inside textbooks, graduate programs, or clinical settings. Families rarely get access to it early enough to make a difference during the periods when they need it most.

This blog is an attempt to change that.

Catalyst Learning is the educational blog of Catalyst Behavioral Health LLC. Here you will find a mixture of behavioral science, practical guidance, and honest conversation about what it means to support families navigating behavioral challenges. Some posts will break down core principles of behavior analysis in plain language. Others will explore the realities of navigating systems like diagnosis, insurance, and service waitlists.

…And occasionally, we may talk about reinforcement schedules, motivating operations, and the occasional cameo appearance from B.F. Skinner.

For technicians, interns, and students of behavior analysis, this space may also serve as a reminder that the science we study is not meant to stay locked inside academic journals. The real work of behavior analysis happens in homes, classrooms, and communities where people are trying to build better lives for themselves and their children.

For parents, the goal is much simpler: to provide knowledge that is understandable, practical, and immediately useful.

Over time, Catalyst Learning will include:

educational articles explaining behavioral concepts

short videos discussing real-life behavioral situations

guidance on navigating behavioral services

updates related to behavioral care in Southwest Louisiana

insights and commentary grounded in evidence-based practice

information about programs offered through Catalyst Behavioral Health, including the Parent Behavior Bridge Program

All materials shared here will remain freely accessible. Knowledge about behavior should not be restricted to those who already have access to services.

As Skinner once demonstrated, behavior is shaped by environments. The same principle applies to systems. If we want better outcomes for families, we must begin shaping environments where information, support, and education are more readily available.

Catalyst Learning is one small attempt to build that environment.

Welcome.
